Severe Thunderstorm Impacts South Brunswick On Tuesday

A strong thunderstorm was to affect South Brunswick and other parts of Middlesex and Mercer counties Tuesday afternoon, as well as northern Monmouth, northern Burlington and southern Somerset counties.

A strong thunderstorm was near Princeton Tuesday afternoon, moving northeast at 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph were likely with this storm and were to tear down some weak branches and leaves.

Cloud to ground lightning was expected with this storm. The National Weather Service warned residents to not stay in the open, nor seek shelter under trees when lightning threatens.

Brief heavy rain was to fall from this storm and cause water to pond on roads.
