The South Brunswick Vikings Baseball U-12's had a big year last summer, and is hoping to kick of next summer in style by heading to Cooperstown for a week of games and baseball history.
“Every year SBAA sends one team, to go to Cooperstown,” said team Manager Andrew Goldsmith. “It’s in July and they play for a full week. This year there there should be over 120 teams there from everywhere in the world. It’s a great experience.”
Goldsmith said SBAA fronts partial cost of the trip, and the team is responsible for raising money to reimburse the club. Goldsmith said it would cost in excess of $10,000. Running the tournament will offset some of the cost for the boys and also offer local teams a tournament to play during the holiday.
That fundraising effort begins this Columbus Day where the team will be hosting the 2012 South Brunswick Columbus Day Baseball Tournament. The tournament would be held at Rowland Park from Oct. 5-7 and is open to all teams ages 10-years-old 12-years-old.
The tournament will cost $500 per team and that includes umpires, guaranteed three games (five games maximum) trophies and a tournament played on the new turf fields at Rowland Park.
It will be a great opportunity for teams to play during Columbus Day weekend and have some fun.
