Radio, TV and Literary Luminaries Come to South Orange- Maplewood

The weather's cold, but company's coming. South Orange and Maplewood play host to a number of luminaries, starting this week.

Jennifer Egan, 2011 Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist of A Visit from the Goon Squad, will be the featured author for Seton Hall University’s Poetry-In-The-Round on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Chancellor’s Suite in the University Center at 400 S. Orange Ave., South Orange. FREE

Kevin Roberts, the Food Dude, arrives in South Orange, sharing secrets from Kissing in the Kitchen, his second cookbook.  Roberts will appear at Seton Hall University on Feb. 7, from 6-9 p.m. FREE

Tim Gunn of "Project Runway" fame will be coming to Columbia High School on Sunday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for general seating, $50 for premium seating, and $40 for tickets purchased at the show (general seating). The performance will be sign-language interpreted. Tickets can be purchased here.

David Lubar and Wendy Mass, acclaimed authors for young readers, will discuss their books and their love of reading on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at the South Orange Public Library. The event will be open to the entire family and will be sponsored by the Friends of the South Orange Public Library and Sparkhouse.

David Lubar is an author of numerous books for teens. He is also an electronic game programmer, who programmed Super Breakout for the Nintendo Game Boy, and Frogger for both the SNES and Game Boy. As a game designer, he designed the game Frogger2: Swampy’s Revenge for the Nintendo Game Boy Color.

Wendy Mass is the author of 11 novels for young people (which have been translated into 13 languages and nominated for 46 state book awards), including “A Mango-Shaped Space” and “Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life” (soon to be a feature film).

Brian Lehrer, host of The Brian Lehrer Show, WNYC Radio's daily call-in program that covers politics and life, locally and globally, will appear courtesy of the South Orange-Maplewood Adult School.
