Springfielders Honor Work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Township Committeewoman Margaret Bandrowski read a proclamation honoring Dr. King.
Organized by the Township Interfaith Council, the group was led in prayer by Rabbi Mark Mallach of Temple Beth Ahm at the beginning and conclusion of the service. A proclamation from the Union County Freeholders was presented by Springfield resident and Freeholder Bruce Bergen.
Bandrowski read a proclamation from the Township Committee honoring Dr. King and declaring the holiday an annual day of recognition within the township.
Attendees sat in a circle and each voiced his or her own personal thoughts and experiences of the Civil Rights movement led by Dr. King. Further, those gathered spoke of the importance of his work and his inspiration in their own lives.
"The consensus was that although we have come a very long way in America there is still much to do and the committment of every individual is essential to continue the work begun by Martin Luther King, Jr.," Bandrowski stated.
