The Calais School's Program for Pre-School Handicapped Children is Accepting Applications

Whippany, NJ-  The Calais School’s Pre-School Program is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private pre-school handicapped program in Morris County and is one of just a few of its kind.  The program offers a choice of either full-day or half-day sessions designed for children with multiple learning disabilities. The program has been developed for children ages 3 to 5 and provides them with a safe, nurturing and academically challenging environment to work on individual goals. Academic, emotional and behavioral supports are provided to aid the transition into Kindergarten. In most cases, tuition for the program is paid for by the student’s sending school district, with no direct cost to parents.

“Many parents often feel hopeless because they cannot find a school to meet the academic and social needs of their child,” states Dr. Diane Manno, Principal of The Calais School, “By having a pre-school program that starts at age 3, we can provide a continuum of service that builds on the child’s early intervention services.  As a result of attending a special education pre-school program, the child will gain the academic and social skills necessary to return to the mainstream program in their home district.”

The Calais School pre-school program features a stimulating learning environment complete with computers, learning stations, manipulative and play areas. Each day the students participate in a structured curriculum designed to teach social skills, creative arts, health and safety, physical education, language arts, literacy, mathematics, science, social studies and family and life skills.  Our teaching approach includes various interactive and multisensory methods and will be individualized according to the needs of each child. With over 43 years’ experience working with special needs children, parents can feel confident that their child is attending one of the leading private special education schools in New Jersey. Students enrolled in The Calais School Pre-School class will also benefit from access to The Calais School’s professional team including the reading specialist, speech and language specialists, a registered nurse and counseling services. Both full and half day programs are available.
