Summit Firefighters Battle Early Morning Garage Fire

A garage in Summit caught fire in the early morning hours on Tuesday, causing road closures and neighboring towns to respond.

SUMMIT, NJ — A garage in Summit caught fire in the early morning hours on Tuesday, causing road closures and neighboring towns to respond.

The well-involved detached garage fire was reported at 4:21 a.m. on April 11 at a Broad Street home. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage, however it sustained significant damage. The fire was declared under control at 4:39 a.m., according to Summit officials.

“Our firefighters made a quick stop and were able to effectively knock down the fire,” explains Summit Fire Chief Eric Evers. “There were no reported injuries to residents or responding firefighters at the scene.”

Summit Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Millburn Fire Department, Berkeley Heights, Fanwood and Mountainside Fire Departments provided additional station coverage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Summit Fire Department Investigations Unit.
