Paterson Man Faces Kidnapping, Carjacking Charges in Teaneck

A Paterson man carjacked his ex-girlfriend Saturday and drove her to a Hackensack mall where he was captured by Teaneck police with the help of an off-duty state trooper, authorities said Monday.

Keshon Archer, 32, pushed his way into the victim’s car on Anna Street around 10:13 p.m., according to Teaneck Police Chief Robert Wilson. Archer, who has a restraining order barring him from contact with the woman, tried to talk with her before the kidnapping.

“As the victim began to drive off, the suspect opened the driver’s door and pushed the victim to the passenger seat,” Wilson said in a statement. “The suspect then jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off with the victim still in the car.”

Witnesses trailed Archer and relayed updates to a police dispatcher as he drove on Route 4 westbound to the Shops at Riverside in Hackensack, Wilson said. Archer parked the car, fled on foot and hid between parked cars before he was caught by police.

An off-duty New Jersey State Trooper, Joe Brennan, saw Archer flee and helped Teaneck officers bring him in, the chief said. The woman was found unharmed.

Archer was charged with kidnapping, carjacking and violating the restraining order. He was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail on $425,000 bail ahead of a Dec. 3 court appearance in Teaneck.
