PSE&G: Teaneck Outages Could Extend Into Weekend

More than 2,000 Public Service Electric and Gas customers remained without electricity in Teaneck Monday morning, and the latest company estimate shows service might not be fully restored for at least seven days.

According to a PSE&G work schedule updated early Monday, 2,842 of the utility company's 15,892 township customers were without service. The company projected to restore 931 customers on Monday, but 119 customers could remain out Saturday. Another 220 had no estimated restoration time.

The company's estimates have fallen short in the past. An original work schedule projected having all of the town restored last weekend. Another schedule showed an increase in local customers without service.

With temperatures dropping, the township and local churches on Sunday announced warming centers. One center, at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, was setup to allow residents to stay overnight, but closed Monday night.

The company said it had restored its remaining damaged substations, and brought electricity back for 120,000 customers in the last 24 hours.

"It is still our expectation to have virtually all of our customers back in service by Friday and the majority of our customers before that date," PSE&G said.
