The child was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

12-Year-Old Struck By Car On Whittier Avenue

A 12-year-old Toms River boy sustained unknown injuries after being struck by a car just before 9 p.m. July 4.

The boy was crossing Whittier Avenue when he was hit, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. The car was traveling eastbound in the Money Island section of Toms River.

Mastronardy said the incident remained under investigation at 11:30 p.m. July 4 and few details were available.

The boy was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune and is currently in unknown condition.

Mastronardy said the driver of the vehicle has not been charged as of this evening.

Traffic Safety Officer Steven Schwartz and Sergeant Ed Mooney are investigating the accident.
