Body of Man Recovered After He Jumps From Toms River Bridge

A passerby reported seeing the man on the bridge; he jumped as police arrived, police said.

The body of an unidentified male has been recovered from Barnegat Bay after the man jumped from the Mathis Bridge this morning, Toms River Police Department spokesman Ralph Stocco said.

The incident occurred early this morning, when a passerby called police to report a man on the bridge. Toms River Police Officer Michael Browne responded to the report and the individual jumped as Browne arrived, Stocco said.

Units from the Coast Guard and the Toms River Fire Department also responded, Stocco said.
