Firefighters Put Out Car Fire at Walmart
Reader Mark Sumner sent photos of a car fire at the Walmart on Route 37

Toms River firefighters responded to a car fire in the Walmart parking lot on Route 37 on Monday and quickly extinguished it.
Jim Mercready, director of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention, shared this report from Chief John Mount:
“Stations 25 and 26 responded to a vehicle fire in the Walmart parking lot and upon arrival of Engines 2671 and 2561, found a working engine compartment fire.

Firefighters under the direction of Captain Michael Muttie deployed an inch-and-three-quarter hose line and extinguish the fire
All vehicles that were near the vehicle involved in the fire were removed prior to the fire department’s arrival.”
Mount, who arrived a short time later, said it was a fine fire suppression effort by all.
