Hearing on Toms River Budget, Tax Hike Set for Tuesday Night

Hearing on Toms River Budget, Tax Hike Set for Tuesday Night
The Toms River Township council will hold a mandatory public hearing before it votes on a proposed $124 million township budget - $8 million higher than last year – which would result in an approximately $100 tax hike for residents.

Township officials have blamed the necessity to spend $1.2 million more than anticipated this winter on snow removal as one of the primary drivers of the budget increase, along with the continued recovery from Superstorm Sandy.

The budget proposal to be voted on Tuesday night calls for a 3.8-cent increase per $100 of assessed property value under the proposed $124 million township budget - $8 million higher than last year.

The public hearing and vote is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. tonight at the township municipal building.
