Join Robot Smackdown, Expand Your Mind At 2nd Jersey Shore Makerfest

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Think your robot can master a maze, complete a task quickly or fly by the competition on a racecourse?

Then come show off your robot's best moves at the Robot Smackdown at the Jersey Shore Makerfest this Saturday, Oct. 15. Jersey Shore Makerfest runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pine Belt Arena and Toms River High School North on Old Freehold Road.

The event is free.

Come explore science, arts and crafts, electronics, because "Makerfest is not a fundraiser, a tradeshow, or an exhibition, but an experiential event," Dr. Marc Natanagara, assistant superintendent of the Toms River Regional School District and one of the organizers of the Makerfest. "We worked with our makers last year to devise activities that allowed attendees of all ages and backgrounds use diverse tools and materials to create art, devices, programs. Last year, guests got to fly a drone, paint a decoy, control robots, replace an outlet, build a lightsaber, write an app, and even clip a bonsai."

This year, there will be a robotics competition with prizes totaling more than $3,000 during the Grunin/Makerfest Robot Smackdown. Bring your own or build a robot on-site to compete in the Mazemaster, Robolympics or the Speedroid contests. Then take part in the Robot Pageant where the robots will be judged on beauty, form and function.
