The Special Olympics Plane Pull at Newark Liberty International Airport raised more than $100,000, officials said.

Newark, NJ — Members of the Toms River Police Department put their muscles and determination on display over the weekend, and along the way raised nearly $4,000 for the Special Olympics.

The team of 20 officers competed at the Special Olympics Plane Pull on Sept. 24, where the goal was to pull a Boeing 737 across the runway at Newark Liberty International Airport, said Ralph Stocco, Toms River police spokesman.

"Our team finished fifth overall out of 54 teams in our very first entrance into this event," Stocco said. And the Toms River Police Department team finished seventh in fundraising, "thanks to our supporters," he said.
