Toms River Man's 'Erratic Behavior' Leads To Standoff In Monmouth County, Police Say
The man had been seen knocking on the door of a home before police were called to a Wawa about his behavior, police said.
WALL, NJ — A Toms River man is hospitalized following a string of incidents of "erratic behavior" that led to police holding him at gunpoint, Wall Township police said.
The 35-year-old man, whose name was not released, had suffered a medical episode that prompted the behavior that included knocking on the door of a Wall resident late at night and acting "erratically" at the Wawa on Route 34, police said.
Police were called to the Wawa at 12:55 a.m. Thursday because of the behavior of the man, who was wearing a traffic vest and camouflage pants, police said.

The description of the man, who had been seen on a doorbell camera knocking on the door of a Wall home at 10 p.m., also matched that of a person being sought in Neptune in connection with a possible kidnapping at knifepoint, Wall police said.
Wall Patrolman Clint Forgach found the man at the back of the Wawa, but the man refused to obey police commands, police said.

That resulted in Wall police holding the man at gunpoint, "for the safety of the officers and the public," police said.
Two more officers arrived and they were able to subdue the man and arrest him, police said.
Neptune police arrived and authorities determined there had been no kidnapping but that the man was suffering from a medical episode, Wall police said.
Authorities also learned the man was wanted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Police did not release the nature of the warrant.
Police said that due to the nature of the medical episode, the man was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
