Toms River Police are investigating multiple unrelated incidents of stolen vehicles, in reports from this weekend.
• In one incident, a rental car out of Stafford was found in Toms River. A Pleasant Plains resident called police to report a suspicious vehicle on Monroe Avenue, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.
The vehicle was reported stolen from the Enterprise Rental in Stafford at 5 p.m. Sunday and was found parked in Toms River 9:30 p.m. Its license plates were removed and placed in the rear of the vehicle.
• In a second incident on Sunday, a quad all-terrain vehicle was reported stolen from the Silver Ridge apartment complex around 4 a.m. where it was parked in a trailer.
Mastronardy said a witness saw three men dressed in black and wearing ski masks pushing the quad through Silver Ridge. The witness confronted the three men, and two ran off while a third pulled a knife from his waistband. After the witness called police the third man ran off, Mastronardy said.
As police came to investigate and interview the witness, the stolen quad was spotted. Two suspects were seen driving it up the hill from the Silver Ridge parking lot onto River Terrace.
• This is the second stolen quad incident at Silver Ridge. In another case, a quad was recovered and impounded. However, police have been unable to identify who owns it. The quad, a black and red Honda TRX 400 valued at $8,000, was left at Silver Ridge.
• A car stolen out of Berkeley Township was recovered midnight Sunday with three individuals charged with possession of the stolen Honda in Toms River.
The vehicle was found at 47 Walnut Street in Toms River that night, said Mastronardy.
Officers Patrick Jacques and Steve Eubanks charged Ansel Applewhite 20 of Sawmill Road in Brick, Bobby Bullock 18 of Primose Court in Brick and Imere Meredith 19 of Fabo Court in Neptune.
Bail was set at $2,500 no 10 percent for each. Berkeley Det. Joe Santoro assisted in the investigation.
