Cops: Man Lied About Name, Fled Fight Scene

A 23-year-old man was charged with disorderly conduct and hindering apprehension on May 31 after said he attempted to flee the scene where he was allegedly involved in a fight outside a Hamburg Turnpike business.

Alex Leyden was caught by Ptl. David Terpstra around 9:54 p.m. Police said that in previously speaking with Leyden, he allegedly said his name was Alex Maida. When police learned his real name, they also discovered a warrant for his arrest from Newark.

The Newark Police Department agreed to have Leyden released with a court date in their jurisdiction because they were unable to pick him up. He was also given a court date on the Bloomingdale charges, which included hindering apprehension because he allegedly supplied police with false information.

John Pilot, 50, of Bloomingdale, was arrested on a warrant out of Wall Township in Bloomingdale on Thursday after being issued a summons for operating an unregistered vehicle. Police said he was stopped by Ptl. Gary Walker on Wallace Avenue at 3:31 p.m. and the warrant was discovered. He was transported to the Bloomingdale police station where he posted bail and was released. Police said his vehicle was impounded.
