Fire 'Severely' Damages Butler Home

A fire severely damaged a Butler house on Kiel Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

A motorist notified police at 2:43 p.m. of a possible fire at the residence, said Butler Acting Police Chief Ciro Chimento.

The responding officers and some “good Samaritans,” Chimento said, went to check on the people inside the home, but neighbors said that the homeowner had already been evacuated. The homeowner was the only one inside the house when the fire began.

The homeowner was “visible shaken” and taken to a local hospital but suffered no physical injuries, Chimento said.

A “substantial” amount of damage was done to the house, Chimento said.

There was “major fire damage in the kitchen and proceeding all along the first and second floors and in the attic,” Chimento said.

A cause has not been determined, Chimento said.

Butler fire investigators were at the house Tuesday afternoon after the fire had been extinguished.

The Tri-Boro First Aid Squad and fire departments from Kinnelon, Riverdale, Wanaque, and Pompton Lakes responded to the fire.
