Recovered Pit Bull Finds Home With FBI Agent

Stolen and returned last week, 4-year-old Sugar now has a permanent home.

Recovered Pit Bull Finds Home With FBI Agent

The chances of Sugar, the from the last week, being taken again are now much more unlikely, especially under the care of her new owner, an FBI agent.

Bloomingdale Regional Animal Shelter Society President Ellen Ribitzki announced Sugar's new home Monday and joked in an email, "Sugar will be living with an FBI agent, not a 'witness protection program,' but we are still positive she won't go missing again. This was a great weekend for us."

"There has been a real outpouring of support at a time when we need it most," Ribitzki added.

Shelter volunteers frantically searched for Sugar after she was missing from her cage on Tuesday, telling police they saw a gray car drive away around the same time as her disappearance and were confident the dog was stolen. On Wednesday, police arrested the man who allegedly took Sugar from the shelter and brought her to his West Milford home.

Sugar is a unique dog, with a deformed lower jaw and missing tail (shelter volunteers said she would get so excited when people came to visit her, she wagged her tail so much in between bars of her cage to the point where it became irritated and needed to be clipped).

The dog had been at the shelter for about a year before being adopted over the weekend.
