Spin For Life Raises Money For Verona Child With Fatal Disease

Team Zoey and the Progeria Research Foundation will be holding its third annual “Spin for Life indoor Spin-A-Thon” to raise money and awareness for progeria, a fatal rapid-aging disease, where children die at an average age of 13 from heart disease.

Team Zoey is a chapter of the Progeria Research Foundation, which seeks to develop treatments and find a cure for the progeria, a disease that causes rapid aging at about seven to 10 times the normal rate in children.

Zoey Penny was diagnosis at the age of five months and her family has been working to find a cure ever since.

Team Zoey hosts annual walks, runs and fundraising events. During the winter months, the foundation invites the community to raise money by cycling individually or as a team at one or both of their Spin for Life events.

The first will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Lakeland Hills YMCA in Mountain Lakes, located at 100 Fanny Rd.

A second Spin for Life will be held on Sunday, February 10 from 8 to 11 a.m. at HardBodyz Fitness in Verona, located at 129 Bloomfield Ave.

“There will be 15 teams with each participant responsible for spinning for 30 minutes,” Team Zoey said. “Participants can spin as a team or individually with the goal of each team raising a minimum of $500. Sponsorship opportunities are available as well.”

Team Zoey will also be selling raffle tickets, which are available for $10 each or $90 for 10. Prizes include six month membership to HardBodyz, a $125 value, five personal training sessions, a $400 value or a three month membership, worth $75.
