'Erratic Behavior' On Ring Cam Ends In Wawa Standoff, NJ Police Say
After refusing to obey police commands, the man was held at gunpoint at one point of the standoff, authorities said.
WALL, NJ — A New Jersey man was taken to a hospital to be evaluated following a standoff with police early Thursday.
At 12:55 a.m. on Thursday, Wall police officers were dispatched to the Wawa North at 1310 Route 34 after they received reports of a man “acting erratically” while wearing a traffic vest and camouflage pants.
Earlier that evening, around 10 p.m., police said the same man – later identified as a 35-year-old man from Toms River – had been captured on a doorbell camera knocking on the door of a home in the Presidential Streets section of town.

While officers were on their way to the Wawa, they were also told that the man’s description matched a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) alert issued by the Neptune Police Department involving a possible kidnapping at knifepoint.
Once police arrived at the scene and found the man toward the back of the Wawa, authorities said he refused to obey their commands, which led to police holding him at gunpoint for the safety of the officers and the public.

“Following the arrival of Patrolman Josh Wheeler and Patrolman Johan Moreno, the subject was successfully escorted to the ground and taken into custody,” police said. “Representatives from the Neptune Police Department arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.”
Once the man was taken into custody, further investigation revealed that no kidnapping had actually occurred, authorities said.
Additionally, a records check found that the man was a wanted person out of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Police did not specify what the man is wanted for.
After authorities determined that the man was suffering from a medical episode, he was then brought to a local hospital for evaluation.
