Tractor-Trailer Fire Shuts Route 34 North In Wall For Several Hours
Expect delays northbound, officials say; Traffic southbound is getting through the area, police say.

UPDATE, 12:45 p.m.: Wall Township police say Route 34 northbound will remain closed between Hurley Pond Road and Airpoort Boulevard for two to three hours while a fuel spill and truck fire are cleaned up.
There were no injuries, Wall Township Lt. Pete Lokerson said.
The fire, which happened shortly before 11 a.m., initially caused the road to be closed in both directions, but the southbound lanes were reopened shortly before noon, according to witnesses.

Lokerson said the Glendola and South Wall fire companies have extinguished the fire, and “several agencies are now on scene addressing a fuel and oil spill as a result of the fire. On scene assisting the Wall Township Police and Wall Township Office of Emergency Management are the Glendola Fire Company, South Wall Fire Company, Wall Township EMS, Monmouth County Hazardous Material Unit, NJ DEP, NJ State DOT and JCP&L, he said.
PREVIOUSLY: A tractor-trailer fire has closed the northbound lanes of Route 34 just north of Interstate 195 to Hurley Pond Road, officials and witnesses say.

According to the website 511nj.org, the fire was causing backups of 10 to 15 minutes, as of 11 a.m. The southbound lanes were reopened shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to witnesses.
