New Year Means Time for Reorganizing

Township and school boards hold important meetings this week.

New Year Means Time for Reorganizing

Among the resolutions many people will pledge themselves to on Monday night may be one to reorganize their lives, setting schedules and making goals for 2013.

In much the same way, local municipal and school officials will be doing the same thing this week: re-organization meetngs scheduled for Thursday will dole out assignments for members and volunteers, set schedules and outline goals.

Warren's Township Committee will likely tap Victor Sordillo as mayor (after Mayor Carolann Garaofola nominated him at the Dec. 13 meeting), as well as pick a deputy mayor. The committee won't add any new members, but perhaps one of the junior members—George Lazo and Mick Marion—will get the nod for the deputy mayor spot.

And on the same night, the Warren Township Board of Education and Watchung Hills Regional Board of Education will also hold reorganization meetings—the first time the boards have done so in January after approving changing school elections to November.

Both boards will install new members—Gregory Przybylski won't be at the township board as many have come to expect, but will take a seat on the folding dais at Watchung Hills Regional. Przybylski won the seat vacated by Peter Fallon in November, topping Diane Belcuore by 111 votes.

The board will also swear-in Watchung resident Barry Hunsinger, replacing Paul Seelig.

The Warren board replaces Dr. Przybylski and long-time member Sue Burman with Desiree DeNourie and Gregory Steier, and Kathy Helewa, sworn-in in March to fill the seat vacated by Sue Tobin, will be sworn-in to her first full, three-year term.

We'll bring coverage of the Township Committee meeting Thursday evening, and follow-up with the school boards after Thursday's meetings.
