NY Teen, PA Man Killed In I-80 crash In Wayne

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes just before 8 a.m., police said.

A teenager from New York and a Pennsylvania man were killed in a vehicle accident on Route 80 Saturday morning, police said.

The SUV they were in rammed into a dump truck that was stopped on the side of Route 80 East, NorthJersey.com reported. Another person was seriously injured.

Michael Lavecchia, 37, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene, The Record reported. One of the two 14-year-old passengers was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. The other passenger, who is related to Lavecchia, the report stated, was in critical condition.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m., according to News12.

A Honda CRV drove off the road and hit the back of a dump truck, which was parked on the shoulder, according to the report.

The driver of the dump truck was not in the vehicle at the time and was not injured, according to the report.

The crash occurred at milepost 53.2, near the exit for Route 46, where traffic was moving slowly in the eastbound lanes in that area, according to nj.com.

Possible drug paraphernalia was found in the Honda, NorthJersey.com reported, but authorities are waiting on the results of a toxiclogicy report to determine if the driver was under the influence when the accident occurred.
