An NJ Transit bus caught fire Wednesday night after while traveling on Route 23 in Pompton Plains Tuesday night.
The driver was taking the bus back to NJ Transit's garage when a tire went flat and, due to the friction with the ground, sparked, causing the fire, said Nancy Snyder, an NJ Transit spokesperson.
The driver was the only person on the bus and he was not injured, Snyder said. Local fire officials responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze. The bus was towed back to the NJ Transit garage.
