Van Peenen's Liquidated, Judge Orders Bankruptcy Filing Changed

Founded by Dutch immigrants in 1929, the famil- owned company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year.

Van Peenen's Liquidated, Judge Orders Bankruptcy Filing Changed

Van Peenen’s Dairy, the 83-year-old milk delivery company has gone into liquidation, NorthJersey.com reported on Monday.

The owners filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection but a federal judge ordered the filing to be converted to a Chapter 7 last week, the website reported.

Patch at the once family-owned business shut down operations. A woman who answered the phone said the business’s bank shut them down and that no one was at the property.

The property was deserted Tuesday afternoon. Only a few trucks sat idely in the parking lot. A company sign was still displayed on the front lawn, but all other signs and ornaments were removed.

Leonard Singer, a Wayne-based attorney representing the business, did not respond to a request for comment.

Van Peenen filed for filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year. That filing came 14 months after a federal court awarded a $767,000 judgment, plus interest and other costs, against the Van Peenen brothers who own the company.

Van Peenen Property, LLC, the property owner, owes the town nearly $64,000 in taxes, including more than $8,200 in interest and nearly $2,300 in penalties.

Dutch immigrants Marinus Van Peenen and his wife Gertrude founded in the company as a home delivery milk service in 1929.
