More Details, Victims ID'd In Fatal 2-Car N.J. Crash; Cop Seriously Hurt

Two were killed in a horrific two-car New Jersey crash on Saturday, where two mangled cars were found, police said.

A horrific two-car crash killed two people in New Jersey Saturday and seriously injured a police officer, officials said.

The two drivers were killed when a 2008 Nissan Sentra, driven by 22-year-old Fabiana Escandon, of Linden, and a 2006 Subaru Impreza, driven by 64-year-old Oscar Chaviano, of Elizabeth crashed into a vacant building, according to CBS2.

Roselle Mayor Christine Dansereau confirmed to New Jersey 101.5 that two people died in the 3 a.m. crash in front of a New Way supermarket, which was damaged in the incident.

“It’s a terrible tragedy,” Dansereau told the station. “Regardless of what, how, who — everybody’s prayers are with the families.”

The mayor also told New Jersey 101.5 that the police officer suffered a serious injury while making a “heroic effort at saving lives.”

Police and firefighters responded to the crash in Union County early Saturday morning, and found two mangled cars, according to News12.

Video from the scene showed at least one person sitting on the sidewalk, with his head in his hands.

The accident happened on Saint Georges Avenue in Roselle around 3 a.m., and authorities are not releasing any information on injuries at this time, according to the report.

One car could be seen crashed into the wall of a building, while a second car at the scene was suspended in the air and wrapped up in utility pole wires, according to ABC7.

A Medevac helicopter initially was called to the scene, but it was later canceled and that victim was transported to an area hospital, according to the report.
