The 6 a.m. vehicle fire was reported on on I-78 eastbound, east of Exit 41 from Dale Rd to Plainfield Avenue in Berkeley Heights, according to state transportation officials.

Witnesses told WABC 77 radio that the tractor trailer was "engulfed in flames" when the incident closed all lanes on Route 78.

By 6 a.m., the right lane was closed as authorities cleaned up the highway so traffic could flow through.

There was no word on the condition of the driver. Traffic remained heavy in the area.
