Westfield's Former WNBA All-Star Named Governor of Union College Board
Tamecka M. Dixon was a former WNBA All-Star and is the owner and operator of Avis Car Rentals Services in Westfield.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Former WNBA All-Star and Westfield business owner Tamecka M. Dixon was name new Governor of the Union County College Board of Trustees.
Dixon was sworn in at the Dec. 6 board meeting.
Dixon, who grew up in Union County, is the owner and operator of Avis Car Rentals Services in Westfield. She attended Linden High School, where she was named a High School All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

She went on to play basketball in the Big 12 at the University of Kansas and after graduation, was drafted into the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) where she played for a total of 12 years, retiring in 2010.
She is best known for her time as a professional basketball player with the Los Angeles Sparks, when she earned the title of WNBA All-Star for three consecutive years, and WNBA World Champion for two consecutive years.

After her retirement from the WNBA, Dixon worked for Edward T. Jones as a Financial Advisor, recommending the appropriate products and services offered by the company to her customers. She also conducted seminars for sales leads for her current and prospective clients.
In 2013, she decided to open her own business and invested in Avis Car Rentals Services. That same year, her company received the Most Improved Office Award. Dixon oversees the daily operations of the business to make sure that all targets are being met.
"She continues to market and grow her presence in the local community. She understands the value of hard work and that determination and commitment can breed success, values that are important on the court and in the workplace," the college board stated.
