ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Belleville police charged an East Orange man with carjacking last month after he allegedly tried to jump into a trailer’s cab and drive away while it was being loaded, authorities say.
According to the Belleville Police Department, a pair of victims reported that they were loading vehicles on a trailer on Belmont Avenue around 8:29 p.m. on Aug. 31, when Quashan Lewis, 29, of East Orange, allegedly jumped inside driver’s side of vehicle cab and attempted to drive trailer away from the scene.
Both victims pulled the suspect out from vehicle and held him until police arrived and placed him in custody, authorities said.
