A NJ Transit bus fire on I-495 westbound delayed bus service to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York for the Thursday evening rush hour commute, officials said.

According to NJ Transit alerts, the vehicle fire caused delays to bus lines throughout North Jersey on Thursday evening.

NJ Transit officials said that bus tickets and passes will be cross-honored on NJ Transit rail service to/from New York.

CleverCommute.com reported that the bus fire was extinguished and the vehicle towed off the scene shortly before 5 p.m. Although two westbound lanes were reopened, residual delays were expected.

NJ Transit riders - many of whom have been using humor as a way to cope with repeated delays - took to Twitter after getting word of Thursday's bus delays.
