Update: Sinkhole On I-280 Exit Ramp Near West Orange; Road Detoured
An exit ramp on Interstate 280 was closed and detoured because of a sinkhole, authorities said.

WEST ORANGE, NJ — An exit ramp on Interstate 280 in West Orange was closed and detoured Wednesday because of a sinkhole, authorities said.
511nj.org posted the following advisory, which was updated at 11:42 a.m.:
“NJ DOT - STMC: Sinkhole on I-280 westbound ramp to Exit 10 - Northfield Ave/CR 508 (West Orange Twp) All lanes closed and detoured.”
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) also tweeted about the sinkhole, advising that drivers follow the detour or plan an alternate route.

The NJDOT said repairs will continue until Friday morning. According to the agency:
“Beginning at approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, April 14 until early Friday morning, April 15, the I-280 westbound Exit 10 ramp to Northfield Avenue is scheduled to be closed and detoured to repair a collapsed drainage pipe. The right lane on Northfield Avenue also is scheduled to be closed.”

- Motorists on I-280 westbound wishing to take the Exit 10 ramp to Northfield Avenue will be directed to continue on I-280 westbound
- Take Exit 8A/Prospect Avenue/West Orange
- Stay left to take the ramp to I-280 eastbound
- Take Exit 9/Mt Pleasant Ave/W Orange/Montclair, which becomes Brennan Drive
- Follow Brennan Drive back to Northfield Avenue
