Westwood Regional Schools Appoint New Interim Superintendent

James M. Sheerin starts July 1.

Westwood Regional Schools Appoint New Interim Superintendent

The Westwood Regional Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint James M. Sheerin as the district's new interim superintendent during their meeting Thursday night.

Sheerin served as a superintendent in Livingston and Hackettstown during the '90s after working in other school administrative positions. He then started his own education consulting business and went on to work as an interim superintendent in numerous districts around the state.

Westwood Regional will be his first district in Bergen County.

Board of Education President Roberta Hanlon said they wanted to get someone with "a fresh set of eyes" in the position.

Sheerin starts July 1, the day after current Interim Superintendent Rory McCourt steps down to return to his roles as director of elementary education and technology and testing coordinator. McCourt, who was appointed in December, previously said he would not be pursuing the permanent position.

Sheerin will likely stay with the district until the board finds a suitable candidate for the permanent position. They have hired an outside firm, R-Pat Solutions, to assist in the search.

The board also voted to appoint Scott Cascone as the new principal of Westwood Regional High School during their meeting.
