Facebook Reminds NJ Residents To Register To Vote
The push alert reminded Facebook users they only have a week left to register to vote.

EDISON, NJ-- Facebook users get a ton of notifications: likes, comments, shares, pokes, and now, reminders to vote.
The social media giant sent out a "push alert" that popped up on home screens of users phones reminding New Jersey voters their registration deadline is coming up. The alert was sent just after 8:00 pm on Tuesday, exactly one week before the Oct. 18 deadline.

Clicking on the alert took you to a Facebook page, encouraging unregistered users to register. Once a user selected their state, Facebook took you to a government website where you can print out a state form in one of ten languages.

Facebook asked those who had already registered were asked to share it with their friends. The University of Texas - Austin recently found that Facebook was an effective tool in encouraging people to register and go out to vote.

Not sure if you're qualified to vote? Anybody who will be 18 on or before Nov. 8, has been a citizen of the country for at least 30 days, and is not serving a sentence or on parole or probation for a federal crime can vote and make their voice heard.
