Cops: Teen Charged with DWI After Car Smashes into Pole, Stone Wall

A 19-year-old from Franklin Lakes was seriously injured when police say her 2006 Jeep Liberty crashed into a utility pole, continued driving for about 288 feet, and then hit a stone retaining wall in Wyckoff on Sunday, Police Chief Benjamin Fox said in a release Thursday morning.

The driver, Margaret Kerrigan, was drunk at the time of the accident, Fox said.

According to police, Kerrigan was driving on Brookside Avenue near the Allendale border at about 3:16 a.m. Sunday when she lost control of the car. After hitting the pole, Kerrigan’s car ran over several properties before crashing into the wall, Fox said.

She was transported to the hospital with back and leg injuries, police said.

Based on a blood sample taken at the scene of the accident, Kerrigan was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and being under the legal age to consume alcohol, Fox said.
