Eagles Summer Day Camp Program Off to a Great Start

Program coordinator says campers are having a great time at Midland Park day camp

Eagles Summer Day Camp Program Off to a Great Start

The following info was submitted by Eagles Day Camp Program Coordinator James Anderson:

As the weather continues to heat up in North Jersey, so does the fun and excitement at Eagles Day Camp, a program of Eastern Christian Schools. The series of four consecutive week-long camps, each with a unique theme and special activities, are held at the Eastern Christian Elementary School campus on Baldin Drive in Midland Park, daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is the second year of the program, and enrollment has already doubled compared with last summer.

The camp’s first session — themed “Animal Adventure” — was held this past week. The campers were divided into four teams at the beginning of the week, with each team getting to decide on their own animal-themed group name. Thus, the “Powerful Panthers,” the “Might Mighty Lemurs,” the “Blue Kangaroos,” and the “Almighty Piranhas” took on the week, complete with mascots made entirely of painted cardboard boxes. The teams provided a basis for fun, competitive activities throughout the week, including the Friday grand finale of Camp Olympics with lots of water games to stay cool.

Tuesday and Thursday were spent enjoying Graydon Pool in Ridgewood, with lots of swimming, shark tag, volleyball, and even burying some of the counselors in the sand. Each Wednesday of camp is highlighted by a special day trip, and this past week found the campers at the Bronx Zoo, which was a huge hit.

The kids were eager to share what they loved most about Eagles Camp. When Tobi Cummins was asked how she liked Eagles Day Camp, she responded with a simple thumbs-up. Others spoke about their favorite activities:

  • Carter: “I really liked playing volleyball at the lake.”
  • Louis: “My favorite part of camp was the lake.”
  • Emmanuel: “My favorite part about camp was going to the Bronx Zoo because I got to learn about animals.”
  • EV: “My favorite part was Graydon’s Pool.”
  • Shannon: “I liked being with my friends.”

Eagles Day Camp is designed to provide campers with a variety of age-appropriate activities within a safe, nurturing, and fun atmosphere, with an emphasis on social, physical, and emotional growth and learning. Some campers come with friends, but making new friends is all part of the fun! If you know of an elementary school-aged child looking for a safe and unbelievably fun experience this summer, check out Eagles Day Camps. Limited space is still available for the last two sessions: July 23-27 (“Carnival Craze”) and July 30-August 3 (“Outstanding Outdoors”).
