Local Officials Honor Long Island Champion Panthers

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined with Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Assemblyman Joseph Saladino and Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino to recognize the Babylon High School football team for their tremendous accomplishments this past season.

Schaffer and Martinez presented each player with an official certificate from the Town to commemorate their achievements. Also in attendance were members of the Babylon Village Board, Coach Rick Punzone and Babylon High School Athletic Director Michael DeJoseph.

The Babylon High School Panthers’ 2013 season was a successful one in which they won the Long Island Division IV and Suffolk County Division IV Championships. The team was also named 2013 Rutgers Cup Champions, which recognizes the most outstanding team in Suffolk County, for the second consecutive year.

Six of the team’s players were named to the All-County Team and three were named to All-Division. Senior Jake Carlock was named Division IV Player of the Year and Rob Burnett Suffolk Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to being named to 1st Team All Long Island. In addition to their on-field successes, the Babylon Panthers also received the 2013 New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar Athlete Team Award with a Grade Point Average of over 90 for the team.
