Suffolk Man Dies After Driving SUV Off Of Dock: Cops

Police said the man had "an apparent medical emergency and drove into the water" just before 7 a.m.

BAY SHORE, NY — A man died after he suffered a medical emergency and drove his vehicle into the water in Bay Shore on Tuesday morning, Suffolk police said.

Robert Lancaster, 39, of Commack was driving a Nissan Rogue at Maple Avenue Dock when he suffered "an apparent medical emergency and drove into the water" just before 7 a.m., police said, adding, that he was pulled from the water and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bay Shore Fire Department's dive team had gone into the water and found Lancaster in the driver's seat, officials said in a Facebook post, adding, that the divers were able to remove him from the SUV and then bring him back to the dock where emergency medical services personnel from Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance took over.

The SUV was searched for any additional people by a diver from the Islip Fire Department, but no one was found.

Along with the Bay Shore Fire Department, Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance, and Suffolk police a total of five different agencies responded to the scene, including the Islip Fire Department.

Suffolk police dispatched multiple units, including officers from the 3rd Precinct, the Marine Bureau, and the department's dive team.

Suffolk homicide detectives are investigating.
