Annual five-mile race might not take place at Thanksgiving, Douglaston chamber of commerce vice president says.

Dick Lynch Turkey Trot Could Be Cancelled This Year

The annual Dick Lynch Turkey Trot through Douglaston could very likely not happen this year, the vice president of the community’s chamber of commerce said.

The five-mile race, which debuted in 2010, is held in honor of the late defensive back for the New York Giants and Washington Redskins who lived in Douglaston.

But Joani Emerson, vice president of the Douglaston Village Chamber of Commerce, said this year’s turkey trot could be cancelled.

Lynch’s family told the chamber that they would not be able to get involved with the event this year.

“We’d like to do the turkey trot again, but we’re running out of time,” Emerson said. “I’m not sure if it’s something we’ll have this year. I can’t say it’s definitely happening and I can’t say it’s dead in the water.”

But she said the event could very well return next year if it does not take place this November.

“If it doesn’t happen this year, I’d say we’ll definitely make sure it happens next year,” she said.

This summer, Strawberry’s Sports Grill cancelled its annual Douglaston Community Day event. Last week, the eatery shut its doors permanently.

And, in September, the annual Douglaston Village Arts Festival was cancelled.
