FIVE THINGS: Rape Trial or Opening Bell

1. The trial of Bayside's Community Baptist Church Pastor Phillip Joubert began this week, reports the Times Ledger. Joubert is accused of raping his daughter when she was 13.

2. The Transport Workers Union want raises, reports the Post.

3. Meanwhile, the TWU, teachers and a slough of other unioned workers will join Occupy protesters for a demonstration in Foley Square, reports the Daily News.

4. That same NYDN article spells out the new rules at Zuccotti, which include no blankets, and no dozing, even while sitting up on a bench.

The protesters today will be dressed in suits to try and blend in the Financial District, reportedly so they can disrupt Wall Street's opening bell at 9:30 a.m. this morning.

5. Protesters are coming to Queens, at the following subway stops, to "take [their] own stories to the train using the people's mike." By "people's mike," they likely mean their ingenious means of amplifying a speech by pausing every few words for the people around the speaker to repeat, loudly, in unison. This was borne from the ban on megaphones. You can observe, participate or shake your heads in disagreement at these Queens subway stops:

  • Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave.
  • Jamaica Center/Parsons/Archer
  • 92-10 Roosevelt Avenue, Jackson Heights
