Bedford-Stuyvesant is probably not the first place that comes to mind when seeking a hotel. While Bed-Stuy is clustered with restaurants, clothing stores, cafes, pizzerias and hair salons, lodging services get nary a mention.

Yet that doesn’t mean that Bed-Stuy doesn’t offer its own fair share of nice and affordable hotels for travelers visiting the city. In this week’s Patch Picks, we look at some of the best short stays in the area:

1. Best Western Plus Arena Hotel, 1324 Atlantic Ave.


This family hotel offers 56 guest rooms, each with its own 42-inch flat screen television, a microwave and refrigerator and iPod docking station. Additional features include a 24-hour business and fitness center, a meeting room that accommodates up to 25 people and, like most Best Western hotels, complimentary continental breakfast is available as well as free wireless high-speed Internet and free parking. The hotel is also 100% non-smoking.

2. Akwaaba Mansion, 347 MacDonough Street


Owned by former Essence editor Monique Greenwood, 4 guest rooms here are decorated with African artifacts and textiles, and all feature private lavatories. Take in a hearty Southern breakfast at this gorgeous bread and breakfast which includes the Black Memorabilia room sports a king-size bed and Jacuzzi for two.

3. Spencer Place Bed and Breakfast, 15 Spencer Place


This B&B offers three guest rooms and a continental breakfast. The rooms feature original detail, lots of light, and comfortable furnishings. All rooms have 10 foot ceilings, a closet, cable TV, AC, and an Internet connection. The bathroom is shared. Spencer Place B&B is just one block away from the Franklin Ave. train station where guests can make a quick trip to Manhattan or other destinations around Brooklyn.

4. Lafayette Guesthouse, 70 Lefferts Place


The hostel is perfect for students or anyone on a small budget. It features five 6 bed dorms, 2 kitchens with cooking facilities, lockers, free WiFi and a friendly staff that’s ready to meet all your needs

5. Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast, 107 Macon Street


This small B&B offers a relaxed comfort in an 1880′s 4-story brownstone townhouse. A complimentary continental breakfast is available and Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast also features wifi (surcharge), conference/meeting rooms, and air conditioning in public areas.
