Re-Emerging Older Professional Artists from Brooklyn Display Work at Carter Burden Gallery

New Shows Opening October 9th

The Carter Burden Gallery is pleased to announce two new exhibitions by Brooklyn artists, Robin Gaynes-Bachman, Glitter and Good Times, and Angela Valeria, On the Wall, opening October 9, 2014, with a reception from 6-8pm. The shows will run until October 30, 2014 at 548 West 28th Street, New York City.

In Robin Gaynes-Bachman’s first show at the gallery, Glitter and Good Times, the self-professed material girl utilizes an enticing array of materials, including glitter, fabric, silver leaf, paints and vinyl, to depict traditional subjects in non-traditional ways. Her delightful work is about transformation, whether reinterpreting sacred imagery and deities, dogs or designer handbags, the experience is not only unique but uplifting.

Growing up in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, Gaynes-Bachman loved the reflective nature of the ocean, the glitter of the rocks, and the specificity of colors, changing dramatically each moment as the light changes. She continues to be fascinated with these qualities, which she now interprets in vinyl and mixed media. Gaynes-Bachman has shown across the country and extensively in New York, and can be regularly seen in her “Windows on Bond” storefront exhibition space. She currently lives and makes work in New York City.

On the Wall, the Gallery’s ongoing and rotating public art installation, will feature Angela Valeria. Valeria’s mixed media work created specifically for this show will showcase the artist’s incredible skill and talent, while continuing to explore her interest in mythology and humanity.

Angela Valeria grew up in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn in sight of the vast horizon of the Atlantic Ocean and the carnival atmosphere of Coney Island, surrounded by the supportive tribe of a huge Italian immigrant family. Among Valeria’s deepest influences are Abstract Expressionism, Jazz, the Civil Rights Movement, Women’s Liberation, the Renaissance, Surrealism, and Fellini. She works with a variety of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking and textile art.
