K-L Officials to Discuss Student Safety at Jan. 10 Board Meeting

Katonah Lewisboro school officials sent a letter to the school community to announce they'll discuss student safety at the next scheduled school board meeting.

The following letter was shared with the school community on Friday, Dec. 21:
Dear Katonah-Lewisboro Community:
One of the wonderful things about working with the children in our schools is seeing them revel in the holiday season.  The sheer joy and exultation of our young people casts a bright light.  Given the strife caused by Hurricane Sandy, and of course, the unrelenting grief and concern for those touched by the Newtown tragedy, we look to our young people to refresh and renew us with optimism for the future. We hope that this holiday season helps begin that renewal and to all the families of the Katonah-Lewisboro School District, we wish you a healthy, happy, and safe holiday season.
In anticipation of the New Year, we hope you will take the time to mark your calendar now for a presentation and discussion that will take place at our January 10th Board of Education meeting.
As we reflect upon the first four months of the school year, our thoughts are inevitably drawn to the issue of safety.  At 7:30 p.m. on January 10th  at the John Jay High School Library, the Board will begin a dialogue and provide direction to the administration on three crucial facets of student safety: student “at-risk” behavior as detailed in the recent PRIDE survey; storm response in the wake of the devastating effects of Hurricanes Irene and Sandy as well as two late autumn snow storms, all in the last 16 months; and building security, a topic that we have sadly been forced to review again in the wake of the terrible Newtown tragedy.
We hope you'll join us and we look forward to hearing your questions, thoughts, and concerns.
Thank you again for your support of our students and of public education in Katonah-Lewisboro.  On behalf of the Board of Education, we wish you happy holidays and best of luck and health for the New Year.
