Letter: Menken Has Legal Experience, Fairness

To the Editor:

As a practicing Westchester Attorney for 37 years and Bedford resident for 35 years, I have participated in many trials and hearings and respect the process used to select local judges.

I support and endorse the election of David Menken as the most qualified candidate for Bedford Town Justice.  David Menken is widely recognized for his knowledge and experience as an attorney, including his experience as Mount Kisco Village Attorney, where he handled the type of commercial, housing and zoning matters which appear before the Court and where he assisted in prosecution of vehicle and traffic cases.  The types of cases which come before the Bedford court require an attorney who not only lives in Bedford but also knows Bedford well through civic and professional involvement.

David Menken is president of the Bedford Village Volunteer Fire Department, a Bedford EMT, and Chairman of the Bedford Zoning Board of Appeals.  His children were brought up in Bedford.  He knows this community.  His legal training at NYU Law School and his affiliation with a large Westchester law firm also give him increased expertise.

A firm but fair temperament, expertise in the law and knowledge of the community are essential for administering justice in our busy Bedford court.  After viewing David Menken's demeanor and his respectful treatment of residents at Zoning Board hearings, I must applaud his selection as the right candidate to succeed Judge Kevin Quaranta.  I am therefore proud to endorse and support David Menken for Bedford Town Justice, and hope that your readers will consider his election to carry on the tradition of local qualified candidates.
