Feb. Break Shrinks in Draft K-L Calendar

1. February break a long weekend?

Local school districts have for 2012-13 for a few reasons: the holidays granted for time off fall on weekdays—rather than some being on weekends, when you wouldn't have to count the day off in the calendar. Plus, spring break is tied to Easter, which will come in late March next year. So trying to fit in holidays plus 182 classroom days plus conference and weather days in a finite stretch of calendar bounded by a Sept. 4 start and a June 21, 2013, finish has been...a challenge. At Thursday night's school board meeting, K-L Superintendent of Schools Paul Kreutzer released a draft calendar for next year, which reduces Feb. break to a long weekend, with Mon. and Tues. Feb. 18-19 off, and Spring Break taking place March 25-29. Kreutzer said the draft calendar will be posted to the district website on Friday.

2. Xanadu comes to Fox Lane Middle School

Remember leg warmers? Roller skating and disco? Now you can re-live those days when the cast and crew of FLMS puts on "Xanadu" at the Mary Lou Meese Theater. The musical comedy will be performed Saturday, April 21, 7 pm and Sunday, April 22, 2 pm. Tickets are $15 and can be found here.

4. County board seeks poll workers

The County Board of Elections is seeking poll workers. If you're interested, contact Erika Sterling ems2@westchestergov.com or Ed Zeba at eaz1@westchestergov.com at the County to sign up. Two training sessions will be held in Bedford Monday, April 16th, at 12 noon and Tuesday April 17th starting at 9 am.

5. James McAlvanah of Bedford to appear on Yorktown Stage

Bedford resident James McAlvanah appears in the cast of , the Tony award-winning musical that, according to producer, director, and lead actor Barry Liebman, is about two things: laughter and sex. It will be performed at the on April 14, April 15, April 21 and April 22.
