Steps to a Healthier Life

The body is a temple so treat it with love.

Steps to a Healthier Life

"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear."-Buddha

I am on a quest to live a healthier life.

My weight has fluctuated for many years, but now I am ready to conquer this lifelong battle once and for all.

In the past six months my life has changed a great deal. I moved an hour away from most of my family and friends and came to Long Island knowing no one.  In many ways, however; it was a blessing.

Being alone, I started to focus on myself more and realized that certain things needed to change for me emotionally and physically. I joined a local gym and worked out everyday to clear my head and to relieve some stress.

In the last three months, I lost 10 pounds and I want to lose more. I do want to look better, but most of all I want to be healthy. My family has a long history of cancer. I lost my father and many loved ones to the disease. I want to be able to do all that I can to take care of myself with proper eating and exercise.

My goal is to get in shape and to lose 15 pounds.

My colleague and East Meadow Patch Editor, Michael Ganci, has been an inspiration to me. He has lost more than 40 pounds with hard work and dedication and he is continuing to strive to take control of his health.

Sam, who owns the Bellmore Personal Training Institute, offered to train Ganci and I for a month to help us accomplish our goals. Monday was my first training session and even though I am still sore, I am even more determined to do this.

I am more than confident that I will accomplish my goal, even though it will be far from easy.

So stay tuned, as I chronicle my weight loss progress with photos, videos and editorials. Walk with me during my journey.
