Clippers Fall in CACC Opener to Dominican

The women's volleyball team at Concordia College opened up their 2013 campaign on Thursday afternoon against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Dominican (N.Y.). The Chargers would snap a three-match losing streak as they defeated the Clippers 3-0.

Concordia began the first set with an early 4-3 advantage only to have Dominican take the lead and never look back. The Chargers ended the set scoring five straight points to take the first set 25-10.

In the second set the Clippers began with a 3-1 advantage as Dominican rallied off six straight points to take a 7-3 lead. Concordia battled back in the set and following five consecutive points they tied the score at 15-15. The Clippers were unable to hold on at the end of the set as the Chargers ended on a 4-1 run to take a 25-20 win and hold a 2-0 match advantage.

For the third consecutive set Concordia would begin with a lead at 6-5. Dominican then added four straight points to take the advantage on the scoreboard. After the Chargers took a 23-11 lead the Clippers looked to make one last run as they rallied off four consecutive points. The lead was too much to overcome as Dominican finished the set with a 25-15 victory to take the match, 3-0.

Tori Dexter led the Chargers with 14 kills while junior Leina Braga (Salvador, Brazil) led Concordia with five kills. Senior Alicia Vogel led the defensive efforts for the Clippers with six digs and a block assist.

Concordia (0-1, 0-1 CACC) now have four days off as the team will not be back on the court until Tuesday, September 17th. The Clippers will visit Caldwell for their first of two meetings this season as the match will begin at 7p.m. in Caldwell, N.J.


Match Notes:

Concordia has lost every opening CACC match since joining the conference in 2009.

The Clippers have dropped the last nine consecutive matches against Dominican (N.Y.) are now 6-9 against them since the 1998 season.

Concordia's last victory against the Chargers came in 2006.


The team's -.094 attacking percentage is the lowest since Sep. 2, 2011 against Azusa Pacific (-.132).
