Eastchester Gains A Sister in Ruvo di Puglia

With a large Italian-American representation in the area, it seems fitting to have the city of Ruvo di Puglia as the new sister city to the Town of Eastchester.

On Aug. 22, Supervisor Anthony Colavita met with Luciano Lamonarca, a world renowned tenor who is also currently the President of the Puglia Center of America according to a press release from the Town of Eastchester.

The two met in the Eastchester Town Hall Community Room to announce the Sister City relationship and Lamonarca says that the Italian Government has declared 2013 to be the year of celebrating Italian culture and heritage in America.

"I am honored and excited to begin this project and I wish to thank Supervisor Colavita for his cooperation and enthusiasm for the project and I'm looking forward to performing here in October," stated Lamonarca

The Sister City program allows communities to exchange ideas, gain an international perspective and increase their understanding of global issues.

It can also lead to economic growth, increased tourism and reliable business contacts.

Supervisor Colavita also spoke of his excitement for the project.

“This is a first for the Town of Eastchester and we look forward to the exchanging of perspectives and ideas," said Colavita.

"There will be a variety of events planned by different local Italian American Citizen Organizations for residents of all ethnicities to enjoy at no tax payers expense," he continued.
