TOWN HALL MTG - ANIMAL ABUSE AND YONKERS CATS
Thursday, May 15, 2014
Riverview Restaurant, 1 Warburton Avenue, Hastings, NY 10706 (Hastings/Yonkers border)
Town Hall Meeting Overview:
"Intention: To bring a new level of seriousness to this crime by inviting local dignitaries and elected officials to speak on this topic. We have invited the Yonkers Chief of Police, the mayor, all city council members, the SPCA of Westchester, the Westchester County Executive and the district attorney to speak for 5-10 minutes each. To date, Council member Pineda has agreed to attend and speak, as has a representative from the district attorney's office. The Westchester County Executive's Chief of Staff will be speaking, and the SPCA is trying to rearrange their schedule in order to attend.
"ACA's primary objective never wavers: it is always to help as many cats as possible in each community and across the nation. We do this through education and our crime-prevention initiatives, legislation, litigation, intervention, community engagement and, of course, through the promotion and widespread use and acceptance of TNR.
"In Westchester County, our primary goal is to help the authorities identify the person(s) responsible for the mass killing of the cats in Yonkers, see them properly charged with aggravated cruelty to animals (felony level) and monitor the case through the courts. In order to accomplish our primary goals, we also hope to:
create a sense of cooperation between local trappers/humane societies and rescuers and establish open lines of communication
establish partnerships and rapport with local dignitaries, civil
leaders and elected officials."
