Just in Case: Hurricane Evacuation Finder

Check out this site and know if you are in an area that may need to be evacuated if Hurricane Sandy comes our way.

Just in Case: Hurricane Evacuation Finder

Luckily, most parts of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill are on high enough ground to probably not need evacuation during Hurricane Sandy. However, Gowanus, Red Hook and the Columbia Waterfront District are all in a potential flood plane.

Meteorologists are predicting, so long as the hurricane and weather conditions continue on the same pattern, for Hurricane Sandy to become the worst storm to hit the northeast in 100 years

Earlier on Friday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a press conference to tell city residents to “take preparations now” for the potential storm. And with high winds, tides and heavy rain expected, transit officials warn system shutdown possible, DOB halts outside construction and a decision on school closures to be made Sunday.

And what about potential home evacuations if the “perfect storm” collides with New York City? How do you know if your home is in a evacuation zone, especially if the “perfect storm” collides with New York City?

Well, thanks to a tweet from State Senator Daniel Squadron, Patch got the scoop.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management put a Hurricane Evacuation Finder on their website. To see if your home is in the evac zone, click here.
